SkillShark alternatives for baseball and softball tryouts
By the TryoutSheet team · Updated
SkillShark is priced per athlete ($5 to $15 USD a year), and its draft mode, leaderboards and messaging start on the $10 All-Star plan. A team that tries out 40 or more players each season may prefer one flat price per team: that’s TryoutSheet’s model, with video included. Large multi-sport clubs that want a per-organization plan can look at TeamGenius.

The alternatives
1. TryoutSheet
Best for: Baseball and softball teams that want one flat price and video included · Price: Free for one tryout of 25 players; one flat price per team per season after that
TryoutSheet does only baseball and softball. Stations come preset, scoring works offline on any phone, and clips are tied to the player, station and rep. Weighted rankings, a blind mode, the draft board and offer and cut emails are in every plan, and the players you pick carry into the season roster with their families’ details. It has no integrations or API yet, and it’s new.
2. TeamGenius
Best for: Big clubs across several sports that budget per organization · Price: $1,050 to $6,500 USD a year per organization
TeamGenius prices by organization size rather than per athlete, with unlimited evaluators on every plan. Video, live drafting, offer tracking and public leaderboards are add-ons on the lower plans. It covers eight sports.

3. Free printable forms
Best for: One small tryout, no budget · Price: Free
For a single tryout of 20 kids, paper still works: one evaluation sheet per player, one score sheet per station. You type it up afterwards. Our baseball and softball forms are free PDFs with the same stations TryoutSheet uses, so you can switch later without changing how you score.

Questions
How much does SkillShark cost?
Its pricing page lists Prospect (free: 25 players, one event, two evaluators), Rookie at $5 USD per athlete a year, All-Star at $10 and Legend at $15, sold in blocks of 25 athletes.
Does SkillShark do video?
Its App Store listing says evaluators can take videos, and the All-Star plan’s Score Overview shows videos across events.
Is TryoutSheet cheaper than SkillShark?
For one tryout of 25 players, both are free. Above that, SkillShark grows with every athlete and TryoutSheet stays one price per team per season, so the more players you see, the more the flat price helps.
