Softball depth chart template
A field diagram with room for a starter and two backups at every position, so you can see the whole team at a glance and know who moves where when someone’s missing. There’s a pitching table under the diagram for roles and rest.

What’s on it
- A softball field with boxes for P, C, 1B, 2B, SS, 3B, LF, CF and RF, three lines each.
- DP/FLEX and bench boxes.
- A pitching table: pitcher, role, pitch limit or rest, notes.
Rather do it on your phone?
TryoutSheet is this sheet on a phone: tap a player’s number, tap a score, film the rep. It works at the field without signal, adds up the stations with your weights, ranks the group, and carries the players you pick into your roster.
How to use it
- Write the starter on line 1 and the next two options below. Most players should appear in more than one box.
- Fill the hard spots first: catcher and shortstop, then pitcher and center field. Those are the positions you can least afford to have empty.
- Check the pitching table against your league’s pitch count and rest rules before each game.
- Redo it every few weeks. Players improve at different speeds, and the chart should follow.
Questions
What is a depth chart in baseball and softball?
A list of who plays each position, starter first, then the backups. It tells you who moves where when a player is sick, pitching or resting.
How many players should be listed at each position?
Two or three. Make sure every position, catcher especially, has at least one backup who has practised there.
Does it work for fastpitch with a DP/FLEX?
Yes, there’s a DP/FLEX box next to the bench.
