# How to switch from TeamGenius

> Switching from TeamGenius to TryoutSheet: export a Custom Report to Excel or CSV (from TeamGenius’s help centre), then paste your players into a TryoutSheet tryout. What moves and what stays.

TeamGenius exports a Custom Report as PDF, Excel or CSV. Export your players with their names, birth dates and a parent’s contact, then paste those columns into a TryoutSheet tryout. The player list moves; scores, notes and video stay in TeamGenius, so keep the export file as your record.

## 1. Export from TeamGenius

1. In TeamGenius, open your assessment home and click Reports in the left-hand menu.
2. Under Custom Report, click Go To Report, then Configure Report.
3. Use the eye icon beside each field to show only the columns you need, and drag them into order: first name, last name, birth date, then the parent contact fields if your club collects them. The help article doesn’t list every field, so look for the closest names.
4. Click the checkmark to apply. Optionally click Save as New Report so you can run it again.
5. Click Export Grid at the top right of the table and choose Excel or CSV.

These steps come from TeamGenius’s own help article, checked October 29, 2026. We haven’t run them on a TeamGenius account; if your screens differ, TeamGenius support can point you to the export. ## 2. Import into TryoutSheet

1. Start free, then create your club, the team and its tryout.
2. Open the export in Excel, Numbers or Google Sheets and arrange five columns in this order: first name, last name, birth date (2012-05-03 works), parent or guardian email, parent or guardian name. Only the names are required.
3. Take out commas inside a cell (“Smith, Jr.” becomes “Smith Jr.”): the import splits each line on tabs and commas.
4. Copy the rows. A header row is fine; a first line that starts with “First” is skipped.
5. In TryoutSheet, open the tryout’s Players & check-in tab, paste into Paste a list, and click Import players.
6. Leave “Email each family for consent” ticked. Each family gets a link to approve the player’s profile, clips and school details; until they do, clips can’t be uploaded.

Players › Paste a list. A header row is skipped; each family gets a consent email. ([screenshot](https://tryoutsheet.com/screens/paste-list.jpg): Paste a list: one player per line from a spreadsheet with first name, last name, birth date, parent email and parent name)

We ran these import steps on a local TryoutSheet build with demo players on October 29, 2026. On the free plan the import stops at 25 players per tryout.

## What moves

- Player first and last names
- Birth dates
- A parent or guardian’s email and name
- Returning players: a name and birth date that match a player already in your club reuse that profile instead of making a copy

## What stays in TeamGenius

- Scores, rankings and evaluation history
- Evaluator notes
- Photos and video
- Team assignments and offer status

Keep the export file as your record.

## Questions

### Can TeamGenius export to Excel?

Yes. Its help article on Custom Reports says Export Grid offers PDF, Excel and CSV, and you choose which player fields appear as columns.

### Will my TeamGenius scores come across?

No. TryoutSheet imports the player list. Scores, notes and video stay in your TeamGenius export; measurables recorded in TryoutSheet build each player’s history from your first tryout on.

### How many players can I import for free?

The free plan covers one tryout of up to 25 players, so the import stops at 25. For more, email hello@tryoutsheet.com and we’ll set your team up while the team plan is being priced.
